Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi participated in the second day of discussion at the G8 Summit.

On the morning of the second day (evening of June 2, Japan Time), a discussion on economic matters was taken place. G8 leaders affirmed that they would cooperate to response to concerns about global deflation, and adopted three documents including the G8 Declaration on "Fostering Growth and Promoting a Responsible Market Economy." During the discussion, Prime Minister Koizumi expressed his intention to adhere to structural reform path which he had advanced since the inauguration of his administration.

G8 leaders discussed politics at noon and adopted five documents including the G8 Declaration on "Non Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction," which calls for the dismantlement of North Korea's nuclear development program and voices deep concern about Iran's advanced nuclear program. During the discussion Prime Minister Koizumi emphasized the importance for a peaceful and comprehensive solution to the issues of nuclear development and abductions of Japanese nationals and sought an understanding of all countries.

In the afternoon (late night of June 2, Japan Time), the leaders discussed development and the environment and compiled an action plan for resolving issues in five areas including health, water, famine and science and technology. Concerning the control of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), a G8 Action Plan on health was compiled stating that the G8 countries would closely work with one another and the World Health Organization (WHO) to curb the epidemic, and Prime Minister Koizumi expressed his intention to positively provide support in this regard.
