Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi visited Germany as the fourth country on his visit to European countries, and held talks with the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Gerhard Schroeder, at the Chancellor's Office in the city of Berlin.

At the summit, the leaders shared the view, in regard to the issues of the reconstruction of Iraq, that they would work toward the rebuilding of a future-oriented system to pursue international coordination.

Prime Minister Koizumi also clarified the stance of Japan on the issue of North Korea, explaining that Japan was aiming for a comprehensive solution to the issues, including the issues of missiles and abductions. Prime Minister Koizumi requested the cooperation of Germany, which has diplomatic relations with North Korea, in seeking a peaceful solution. Chancellor Schroeder expressed his stance of support and cooperation with Japan in response to this request.

Prime Minister Koizumi then paid a courtesy call on the President of the Federal President of Germany, Johannes Rau, at his official residence.
