The Fourth Meeting of the Japan Tourism Advisory Council
The Fourth Meeting of the Japan Tourism Advisory Council was held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence. At the meeting of this day, the "Report by the Japan Tourism Advisory Council" was determined and handed to Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi by Chair Shosaburo Kimura. Since January the Council has been conducting vigorous discussions from a broad perspective concerning how to realize the goal of doubling the number of international visitors to Japan by 2010. The report compiled by the Council reexamines the significance of tourism for Japan and proposes a number of challenges and strategies required for the realization of Japan as a country built on tourism. Prime Minister Koizumi who received the report said, "This report contains opinions of experts who have insights into their respective areas and I will treat its contents with high regard as such. With the recognition that tourism is one of the fundamental industries which supports Japan, the Government would like to tackle this issue with the cooperation of the private sector." |
