Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi met with President of the Council of State Fidel Castro of the Republic of Cuba at the Iikura House of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the meeting, the leaders exchanged views on the international situation and the bilateral relations between Japan and Cuba.
Regarding the issue of North Korea, Prime Minister Koizumi stated, "There are difficulties, but it is important to negotiate tenaciously." In response, President Castro expressed his recognition that a political solution was possible.
Concerning the issue of Iraq, Prime Minister Koizumi explained Japan's stance making international cooperation compatible with Japan's partnership with the United States whereby it is calling for Iraq to comply with United Nations resolutions while asking the United States to cooperate internationally. President Castro indicated his awareness that based on Iraq's moves to destroy its missiles, a resolution of the issue could be possible.
The two leaders also discussed bilateral relations including economic exchange. |
