The Awards Ceremony of the Japan Professional Sports Grand Prize was held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.
Sponsored by the Japan Professional Sports Association, the Japan Professional Sports Grand Prize is awarded each year to the individual or group that is deemed to have made the largest contribution in every sense of the word to overall professional sports throughout the country.
Selected to receive the Grand Prize this year was the Japan National Football Team of the 2002 FIFA World Cup, recognized for having made it through the First Round and entered the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup jointly hosted by Japan and the Republic of Korea.
World Cup Japan National Team member Tomokazu Myojin and coach Masakuni Yamamoto were among those who attended the Awards Ceremony and accepted the Prime Minister's Award from Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi. |
