Tuesday, November 19, 2002
Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi received a report on FY2003 tax system revisions from Chairman Hiromitsu Ishi of the Government Tax Commission at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.
Earlier in the day, prior to submitting the report, the Tax Commission held a general meeting to consider tax revisions for the coming fiscal year. At the meeting, it approved the inclusion in its report of recommendations for tax increases such as a reduction in individual income tax exemptions and a reduction in exemptions to paying the consumption tax granted to small and medium enterprises. It also approved tax cuts for research and development and for capital expenses in information technology (IT) and other advanced fields, as well as measures to reduce taxes such as decreasing the registration and license tax on the purchase of land and the real estate acquisition tax. |
