Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi attended the 11th Summit between Japan and the European Union (EU) held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.
The Summit was held with the participation of Prime Minister Koizumi, Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen of the Kingdom of Denmark in his capacity as President of the European Council, and President of the European Commission Romano Prodi. The leaders agreed on support for the establishment of a Palestinian state to promote the Middle East peace process and to encourage the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) to promote a dialogue with Japan, the United States, the Republic of Korea, and the European Union. They also agreed to proceed as soon as possible with negotiations on a framework agreement for cooperation in the field of Science and Technology between Japan and the EU and to promote human exchanges in designating 2005 as the "Japan-EU Year of People-to-People Exchanges." Afterward, the leaders issued a joint statement at a joint press conference.
In addition, Prime Minister Koizumi held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Rasmussen of Denmark.
