First Cabinet Meeting at the New Prime Minister's Official Residence Tuesday, May 7, 2002 On the occasion of the start of full-fledged operations at the new Prime Minister's Official Residence, cameras were allowed to enter the new Cabinet Room to record the first Cabinet Meeting and made it public. The new Cabinet Room measures approximately 110 square meters and contains a round wooden table that seats Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and 17 other Cabinet ministers. The walls are partly made of wood, creating a relaxed atmosphere. In principle, Cabinet Meetings are held twice a week, in which decisions are made by the Cabinet on various matters of state.
