Japan Prize Laureates Pay a Courtesy Call

Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi received a courtesy call from the Japan Prize laureates at the Prime Minister's Official Residence and talked with them. The Japan Prize is awarded to people from all parts of the world whose original and outstanding achievements in science and technology are recognized as having advanced the frontiers of knowledge and served the cause of peace and prosperity for humankind.
The Japan Prize laureates for 2002, the 18th year of the awards, include Dr. Timothy John Berners-Lee of the United Kingdom who was recognized for his work in the "advancement of civilization through invention, implementation and deployment of the World Wide Web" in the field of computing and computational science and engineering, as well as Dr. Anne McLaren of the United Kingdom and Dr. Andrzej K. Tarkowski of Republic of Poland, whose "pioneering work on mammalian embryonic development" in the field of developmental biology was commended.
The awards ceremony is to be held in the National Theater of Japan on April 25 in the presence of Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan. |
