Green Feather Campaign
Friday, April 19, 2002
Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi met with Aki Tsugayasu, the Japan Cherry Blossom Queen, who visited the Prime Minister's Official Residence on the occasion of the Green Feather Campaign, under which the Greenery Week and Green Funds events are to be held. Ms. Tsugayasu attached a green feather pin to the Prime Minister's lapel and presented him with a rhododendron. The Green Donation event is jointly sponsored by the National Land Afforestation Promotion Organization and the prefectural afforestation promotion committees. The purpose of this event is to support reforestation activities by volunteers in Japan and abroad who are involved in tree planting for the prevention of global warming and flooding, as well as in taking care of unmaintained water source forests and satoyama (village forests), in order to protect forest and green areas, which have been increasingly recognized during recent years as a common asset for all humanity. |
