Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi attended a Central Meeting of the 2002 National Spring Traffic Safety Campaign held at the Hongo Elementary School in Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo. This Campaign has been held since 1999 with the objective of widely promoting understanding of traffic safety concepts among the people, and striving to prevent traffic accidents effectively.
Prime Minister Koizumi, addressing the children of Hongo Elementary School, stressed that each year nearly 9,000 people die in traffic accidents, leaving behind bereaved families, and call them to thoroughly abide by traffic safety rules. Following this, the Prime Minister participated in a series of events such as a fashion show displaying suits made with reflective materials and a bicycle riding techniques class.
