Meeting of the Council of Ministers for Global Environmental Conservation Wednesday, March 27, 2002 A meeting of the Council of Ministers for Global Environmental Conservation was held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence. During the meeting, the "National Strategy of Japan on Biological Diversity" was adopted in order to advance the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity in Japan through a comprehensive and planned approach. At the closing of the meeting, Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi stated, "I call upon the entire government to work together as we aim for a society that coexists with nature based on the National Strategy that has just been adopted. Furthermore, I would like to ask you to develop measures that will facilitate participation by local public bodies, the residents of local communities, non-profit organizations (NPOs) and corporations."
