The Global Warming Prevention Headquarters

A meeting of the Global Warming Prevention Headquarters was held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.

At the meeting, based on the "Future Policies Toward the Ratification of the Kyoto Protocol," decided upon on November 12, 2001, the Climate Change Policy Program was adopted in order to advance a comprehensive and planned approach to ensure that Japan meets the goals outlined in the Kyoto Protocol.

At the closing of the meeting, Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi stated, "It will be no simple task to achieve the goals of the Kyoto Protocol. Aiming for balance between the environment and the economy, the Government, local public bodies, enterprises and the general public must unite and work together in this endeavor." The Prime Minister further stressed, "Whether or not we are able to hand down to our children "A Society that is Enveloped by a Beautiful Environment that Allows for a Comfortable Lifestyle," depends on the actions of each and every one of us. I call upon people in all sectors of our society for their understanding and cooperation in this regard."
