Departure Report of the Japanese Team of International Peace Cooperation in East Timor

Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi received a departure report from a representative of the Japanese Team of International Peace Cooperation in East Timor at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.
This time approximately 700 personnel are to be dispatched to the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor (UNTAET) on various areas essential for the implementation of the United Nations Peacekeeping Operations (PKO), including the maintenance and repair of roads and bridges and the maintenance and management of water supply facilities. The personnel dispatched are expected to continue to participate in the PKO following the independence of East Timor, scheduled for May 20, 2002.
Receiving the report, Prime Minister Koizumi offered encouragement to them. |
