Meeting Between the Government and the Japanese Trade Union Confederation

A meeting between the Government and the Japanese Trade Union Confederation@(Rengo) was held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence. At the start of the meeting, President of Rengo Kiyoshi Sasamori handed Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi a written request concerning, among other things, issues related to budget formulation such as a swift decision and implementation of a second Supplementary Budget and a strengthening of employment measures. The two sides then entered into an exchange of views.

Prime Minister Koizumi explained that in addition to making efforts to swiftly implement the Supplementary Budget that was recently formulated, which has a particularly emphasis on employment measures, a *Extraordinary Draft Bill for Employment Measures is currently being deliberated. The Prime Minister added that given the severe economic conditions, the Cabinet had yesterday decided to compile a second Supplementary Budget for FY2001 and that he had accordingly instructed each government ministry to begin work on its compilation, in order to further accelerate the pace of structural reform and to prevent the economy from falling into a deflationary spiral.
