Prime Minister Meets with Prime Minister of Thailand

Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi met with Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra of the Kingdom of Thailand at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.
In the meeting, having affirmed the traditional ties of friendship between Japan and Thailand, the two leaders agreed on the importance of promoting closer economic relations and that the Economic Partnership Framework between Japan and the Kingdom of Thailand (2001-2005) would play an important role in achieving this. Both leaders also exchanged views on how to promote cooperation through regional accords. Prime Minister Thaksin also commented on the importance of taking a positive stance on working towards democratization in Myanmar. In response, Prime Minster Koizumi stated that he hoped to see both democratization and political stability in Myanmar. Following talks, a signing ceremony of the Economic Partnership Framework by the Foreign Ministers of both countries took place in the presence of the two leaders. |
