The Global Warming Prevention Headquarters

A meeting of the Global Warming Prevention Headquarters was held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.

The meeting resulted on the future measures to be taken towards ratification of the Kyoto Protocol, following the adoption of a legal document of the Bonn Agreement, which finalized rules regarding the implementation of the Kyoto Protocol, at COP7 (The Seventh Session of the Conference of the Parties to the Framework Convention on Climate Change) held in Marrakech, Morocco, on November 10, 2001.

At the closing of the meeting, Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi stated, "With this agreement, all relevant ministries and agencies of the Government of Japan will make concerted efforts to initiate full-scale preparations for ratification of the Kyoto Protocol in 2002." The Prime Minister further stated, "It is incumbent on our individual efforts to ensure that we bequeath a global environment of good quality to future generations. Based on the decision today, I call for further efforts from all related Ministers and for understanding and action on the part of the people of Japan."
