The Seventh Meeting of the IT Strategic Headquarters

The Seventh Meeting of the Strategic Headquarters for the Promotion of an Advanced Information and Telecommunications Network Society (IT Strategic Headquarters) was held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.
At the Meeting the participants discussed a "Survey on the progress being made in advancing various policies such as the measures outlined in the e-Japan Priority Policy Program and revisions to the established benchmarks," as well as "Measures to ensure information security." In the meeting, a decision was made to establish the Research Council on IT-related Regulatory Reform with a view to promoting IT strategy. The Research Council will conduct focused discussions in order to compile a draft plan by the end of this year.
Before the conclusion of the Meeting, Prime Minister Koizumi stressed that it was important to further promote the IT revolution by accelerating the pace for the advancement of electronic government and the promotion of regulatory reform in a joint efforts of the government and private sector in orders to achieve the national goal of making Japan the world's most advanced IT nation within five years.
