Japan-ASEAN Summit Meeting

Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi attended the Japan-ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Summit Meeting held in Brunei Darussalam and engaged in discussions over a broad range of issues between Japan and ASEAN.
In the Summit Meeting, Prime Minister Koizumi expressed his resolve to further develop Japan's peaceful diplomacy, and together with ASEAN colleagues on an equal footing to build up cooperative relations in a broad range of areas including politics, economics, society and culture, thus making a contribution to the peace and prosperity of Southeast Asia.
In addition, at the end of the meeting the Prime Minister stated, "I believe that we are all agreed that in order to respond to the various issues and challenges that face us we should strengthen Japan-ASEAN consultation and cooperation in a broad range of areas. This will require our mutual efforts, and I would like to take this opportunity to reaffirm Japan's unwavering resolve to continue to make such efforts." |
