Summit Meetings with Malaysia and the Republic of Indonesia

In the morning, Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi held summit meetings with Malaysia and the Republic of Indonesia before returning to Japan.
At the summit meeting with Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammed of Malaysia, Prime Minister Koizumi stressed the importance of international cooperation toward the eradication of terrorism, and asked for his understanding while expressing Japan's intention to act within the framework of its constitution in regard to the Anti-Terrorism Special Measures Bill.
He also explained that Japan will be actively involved in the restoration of Afghanistan, and indicated Japan's stance that it will cooperate with a long-term outlook toward the formation of a stable government and economic recovery.
At the summit meeting with President Megawati Sukarnoputri of Indonesia, there was also discussion on counter-terrorism, and both recognized that international cooperation is extremely important to counter-terrorism. Prime Minister Koizumi also stated that Japan intends to continue its Official Development Assistance (ODA) to Indonesia in the future.
After completing the entire schedule, Prime Minister Koizumi departed for Japan the same afternoon. |
