Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi visited Miyakejima to observe the volcanic damage.

Prime Minister Koizumi visited the disaster areas on Miyakejima (Miyake Village, Tokyo) to observe the situation one year since the volcanic eruption and the evacuation of all the residents in the island due to the seismic activity that has continued since then. The Prime Minister spent almost one hour observing the situation at houses in Kamitsuki District, which was buried in a mudslide and at the construction site of a dam to prevent landslides in the Sanshichizawa District.

After observing the situation in Miyakejima, the Prime Minister visited the former Tokyo Metropolitan Akikawa Senior High School in Akiruno City, Tokyo, where he addressed the elementary, junior high school and high school students of Miyakejima and encouraged them to keep their spirits up and learn what they can from the difficult experiences that they have endured.
