Japan-U.S. Summit Meeting

During the morning (late evening of the same day, Japan time) Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi held summit talks with President of the United States George W. Bush at the White House in Washington D.C., in which the two leaders conferred about response measures to the terrorist attacks in the United States.

The two leaders confirmed that they would cooperate in various areas, including diplomacy, military affairs and economics, in response to the terrorist attacks.

Prime Minister Koizumi stated, "As an ally of the U.S., Japan will spare no efforts in providing utmost assistance and cooperation. We are committed to provide the greatest support possible within a scope that does not constitute an integral part of the use of force." The Prime Minister also expressed a positive posture in such activities as the revision of domestic laws, noting that, "Japan is eager to fulfil its responsibilities as a member of the international community."

In response, President Bush expressed his gratitude for Japan's response and declared that firm and unyielding measures would be taken to combat terrorist organizations.
