Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi paid a visit to the United States in order to confer with President of the United States George W. Bush concerning a response to the terrorist attacks in the United States.

Prime Minister Koizumi arrived in New York in the morning (evening of the same day, Japan time), and in the afternoon he met with the families of those Japanese people who are still missing, and promised to do all he could to support all of these families.

The Prime Minister also paid a visit to southern Manhattan and the site of the World Trade Center which was destroyed in the terrorist attacks, witnessing the destruction for himself.

After touring the areas affected by the terrorist attacks, Prime Minister Koizumi held talks with Governor of the State of New York George E. Pataki and Mayor of New York Rudolph W. Giuliani, during which he stated, "Japan would like to make contribution especially in economic and diplomatic fields."

The Prime Minister also held talks with Secretary General of the United Nations Kofi Annan. In the meeting, the Prime Minister stated that, "In the fight against terrorism it is of the utmost importance that each and every country exert maximum efforts to cooperate with the international community in accordance with its own particular situation."
