The Liaison Meeting of the Government and Ruling Parties was held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence regarding the issue of terrorist attacks in the United States that occurred yesterday.

At the outset of the meeting, Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi stated, "I am outraged by these extremely vicious acts. These acts pose a grave challenge not only to the United States, but to the entire free world, and I strongly support the United States to stand against terrorism. All relevant ministries will work in concert to take every possible measure in order to gather accurate information on the situation and to take the appropriate measures."

Following this, the Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuo Fukuda provided an overview of the attacks based on the latest information and explained the response being taken by the Government of Japan.

The participants affirmed that they will continue to make their utmost efforts toward gathering accurate information on the situation, including the safety of Japanese nationals concerned. They also agreed to pay close attention on the impact of these acts on the economy.
