Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi announces his statement at the Press Conference
A meeting of the Security Council was held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence. In response to the simultaneous terrorist attacks that occurred yesterday in the United States of America, the concerned ministers and others made reports on the situation including the safety of Japanese nationals concerned and the response measures being implemented by the Government of Japan, including enhancing security at airports. As a result the Government Response Policy consisting of six items was adopted. This policy contains utmost effort to gather accurate information on the situation including the safety of the Japanese nationals and reinforcement of the security of such facilities and establishments related to the United States in Japan. Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi described these attacks as grave challenges not only to the United States, but also to the entire democratic society and expressed his condolences to the victims of these tragedies and to their bereaved families. The Prime Minister stated that Japan is resolved to firmly support the United States and will spare no effort in providing the necessary assistance and cooperation. He further stated that Japan would stand firmly together with the concerned nations of the world to ensure that such acts are never repeated. |
