Prime Minister Junicihiro Koizumi attended a ceremony to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the signing of the San Francisco Peace Treaty held at the concert hall of Tokyo Opera City in Nishi Shinjuku, Tokyo.

This ceremony was held as one of a number of events to convey a message of gratitude for the various support and cooperation provided by the United States in Japan's post-war drive towards reconstruction, democratization and the development of a free economy.

The Prime Minister stated that, "The importance of the Japan-US alliance is increasing not just in the Asia-Pacific region, but around the world. We will continue to make all efforts to further the Japan-United States partnership in the 21st century."
