Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi received a report from Japanese Team of International Peace Cooperation who had returned from East Timor at the Prime Minister's Official Residence. The team was dispatched by the Government of Japan to East Timor as electoral observers to oversee the elections for representatives to the Constituent Assembly in East Timor on August 30 as part of UNAMET (the United Nations Mission in East Timor). On the day, twelve of the nineteen members visited Prime Minister Koizumi at the Prime Minister's Official Residence and Team Leader Yoshinobu Hiraishi informed the Prime Minister of the situation in East Timor. After hearing the details of their activities, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the team members for their commitment and hard work and praised their activities. |
