Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi met with President Tommy E. Remengesau Jr., President of the Republic of Palau at the Prime Minister's Official Residence. At the meeting the Prime Minister stated that, "I would like to further strengthen our close ties with the beautiful island nation of Palau, with which Japan has historical ties." President Remengesau stated that, "I would like very much for the Prime Minister to make a visit to Palau, which has already been visited by so many Japanese. I would like to express my gratitude for the cooperation provided by Japan, and I hope that it will continue." Concerning the Kyoto Protocol, President Remengesau stated that, "I am grateful for the active role that has been played by Prime Minister Koizumi and all people concerned in the Japanese Government." |
