Eight young people (descended from families that had lived in the Northern Territories of Japan), including Fumiya Sannohe of Keiun Middle School, in Hokkaido's Nemuro City, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi at the Prime Minister's Official Residence. Prime Minister Koizumi encouraged the young people to carry on the movement for the return of the Northern Territories and to further broaden the movement. The young people will take part in the Kanto-Koshin'etsu Youth Exchange Meeting to be held in Saitama Prefecture on 5 and 6 August and are expected to enhance understanding and recognition of Northern Territories issues through exchange with young people of the same age. |
