| The Fifth Meeting of the Strategic Headquarters for the Promotion of an Advanced Information and Telecommunications Network Society (IT Strategic Headquarters) was held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence. At the meeting, the Headquarters decided on the "e-Japan 2002 Program-Basic Policies Concerning the IT Priority Policy Program in FY2002." Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi stated, "based on this Program, I would like Cabinet Ministers to take specific measures toward the drafting of the FY2002 budget and legal revisions, in relation to the promotion of e-government and e-local government discussed today, with the ambitious aim of making Japan the world's most advanced IT nation within five years." The Prime Minister further noted, "I would like to promote the improvement of convenience for each an every individual in a manner visible and evident to the people by furthering IT human resource development plans and e-projects. I would like you to set store by this momentum and make further efforts in this regard." |
