Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi met with President Vicente Fox Quesada of the United Mexican States at the Prime Minister's Official Residence. The two leaders agreed to continue to further enhance the two countries' long-standing friendly relations. As regards methods of intensifying bilateral economic relations, they agreed to establish a joint study group composed of individuals from industry, government and academic circles to carry out a comprehensive study on the possibility of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), among other things. The two leaders also agreed to advance bilateral exchanges of views on the energy sector. Furthermore, commenting on recollections of his previous visit to Mexico, Prime Minister Koizumi noted, "I have pleasant memories of my time spent in Acapulco and elsewhere in Mexico." President Fox extended an invitation to Prime Minister Koizumi, saying, "Please come to Mexico to attend next year's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) conference."
