Opening Statement by Chief Cabinet Secretary Edano
CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY EDANO: I would like to report on the rescheduling of the Prime Minister's visit to the United States. At the Japan-United States summit talks held in Deauville, France in May of this year, United States President Barack Obama invited the Prime Minister to visit the United States during the first half of September. Since then we have been making practical adjustments including the formation of a concrete schedule. However, in consideration of the current political situation in Japan, the Government has decided that it would be appropriate to postpone the Prime Minster's visit to the United States and readjust the schedule for a future visit. We have just notified the authorities in the United States of our decision, and they have expressed their understanding.
