Japan and the European Union hosted the Second EU Japan English Haiku Contest under the theme of "Kizuna - bonds of friendship -" between 13-23 May.
366 haikuist (134 from Japan and 232 from the EU) entered the contest, writing haiku on friendly Japan-EU relations, solidarity to Japan, or appreciation to the EU.
Two haikus, one from the EU and one from Japan, are selected as the winning haikus. The winner from the EU will be offered a round-trip to Matsuyama City, Japan. Matsuyama City is considered to be the centre of modern Haiku in Japan. The winner from Japan will be offered a round-trip to Belgium, the home country of EU President Herman Van Rompuy*.
