Tornado damage in the Southeastern states of the US: Messages of sympathy from Prime Minister Kan

April 28, 2011
[Provisional Translation]

Dear Mr. President,

I am saddened and heartbroken at the loss of precious lives and tremendous damages caused by the tornado in Alabama and other South Eastern States. On behalf of the Government and the people of Japan, I would like to pray for the souls of the victims and express my deepest condolences for their families. I would also like to extend my heartfelt sympathy to the people in the affected areas.

I am deeply grateful of the strong support and encouragement which you, your government and the people of the United States have given us through the Great East Japan Earthquake. Japan is ready to provide support needed for your country upon the disaster in the United States.

The hearts of the people of Japan are always with you and the people of the United States through this difficult time.

Sincerely Yours,

Naoto Kan
Prime Minister of Japan

The Honorable Barack Obama
President of the United States of America
