Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the third meeting of the Headquarters for the Reconstruction from the Great East Japan Earthquake at the Prime Minister's Office.

Discussion took place on the scale of the project cost for reconstruction from the Great East Japan Earthquake, the issue of financing, and other matters.

The Prime Minister said in his opening address, "As the second supplementary budget was enacted yesterday, I held the third meeting of the Headquarters today to discuss the financial framework that is the central issue of the Basic Policy [on Reconstruction from the Great East Japan Earthquake]. Needless to say, it is an extremely important issue.
The first point is, what should be the period for reconstruction. The second point is, what should be the scale of the project cost and how this should be financed. On these, I would like to hear a report of the result of discussion made in three ministerial meetings held so far.
Toward the compilation of the Basic Policy within July, although we do not have much time left, from the perspective of maximizing the speed of reconstruction, I would like to have this issue sufficiently discussed today as it concerns the foundation of the Basic Policy."
