Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the 19th meeting of the Government Revitalization Unit at the Prime Minister's Office.

Discussion took place on reforms of regulations and systems, reviews of programs related to the reconstruction from the Great East Japan Earthquake, reforms of the special account system, reforms of public interest corporations, and other matters.

The Prime Minister said in his opening address, "I believe this is the first meeting of the Government Revitalization Unit under the new structure. With Mr. Yukio Edano, Chief Cabinet Secretary, as the minister in charge and Mr. Yoshito Sengoku, Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary, and Ms. Renho, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister, also in charge, I feel that the Government Revitalization Unit has been strengthened in some sense.
Moving forward, I would like everyone to continue to make efforts for the elimination of wasteful spending, reforms of regulations, reforms of the special account system, among other items. In addition, I would like the Government Revitalization Unit to, in a positive sense, offer its full support for tackling the variety of issues which confront the road to restoration and reconstruction.
In any case, I would like to express my appreciation for the tremendous efforts the Government Revitalization Unit has made to date. At the same time, I would like to sincerely ask for its further engagement as we embark on this new phase."
