The Prime Minister Attends the Ceremony for the Day for Restoring Honor and Memorializing the Victims of the Leprosy Prevention Act
Prime Minister Naoto Kan attended a ceremony for the Day for Restoring Honor and Memorializing the Victims of the Leprosy Prevention Act at the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. At the ceremony, he offered a silent prayer at the Monument for Restoring Honor and Memorializing the Victims of the Leprosy Prevention Act, and delivered an address.
Since FY2009, the date the Act on Payment of Compensation to Inmates of Hansen's Disease Sanatorium came into effect, June 22, has been designated as the Day for Restoring Honor and Memorializing the Victims of the Leprosy Prevention Act. Events are held to remember, pay tribute to, and restore honor to people who had Hansen's Disease and others affected by the Leprosy Prevention Act.
This year, the Monument for Restoring Honor and Memorializing the Victims of the Leprosy Prevention Act was erected and unveiled.
