Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the tenth meeting of the Council for Intensive Discussion on Social Security Reform at the Prime Minister's Office.

Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said, "The proposal for social security reform compiled today, unlike previous proposals which treated each system separately, presents the overall vision of social security reform and is also innovative in the sense that it presents specific cost estimations and clarifies the basic idea of comprehensive reform.
Moving forward, using this proposal as a draft, I would like to see robust discussions carried out between the government and the ruling parties as well as with the local governments. As we decided at the Cabinet meeting the other day, I would like to decide on the final draft plan for comprehensive reform within June."
