Prime Minister Naoto Kan held a meeting with Mr. Nobuaki Koga, President of the Japanese Trade Union Confederation (RENGO), and others representing RENGO at the Prime Minister's Office.

The Prime Minister said in his opening address, "The Government is doing everything it can for the restoration and reconstruction. RENGO, too, has made significant efforts in various ways, including volunteer efforts, and I would like to express my sincere gratitude.
Today, we are holding a very important meeting in terms of listening to RENGO's policy recommendations and exchanging views. Regarding the employment situation, the unemployment rate is still 4.7%, and in that respect the efforts are not necessarily adequate. I would like work together so that the restoration and reconstruction work will contribute to the growth of the economy and the improvement of the employment situation."
