Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the fifth meeting of the Headquarters of the Government and Ruling Parties for Social Security Reform at the Prime Minister's Office.

Discussion took place on the Council for Intensive Discussion on Social Security Reform's proposal for social security reform and the establishment of the Final Draft Preparation Meeting.

Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said, "Moving forward, we have agreed to establish the Final Draft Preparation Meeting under the auspices of the Headquarters and to carry out robust discussions, working from the proposal for social security reform compiled by the Council.
I have said the Great East Japan Earthquake is a 'crisis in the midst of a crisis,' and I believe the comprehensive reform of social security and taxation systems is a major step for overcoming the disaster and reviving Japan.
To this end, as we decided at the Cabinet meeting last month, I would like to decide on the final draft plan for the comprehensive reform of social security and taxation systems within June."
