Council for Intensive Discussion on Social Security Reform
Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the ninth meeting of the Council for Intensive Discussion on Social Security Reform at the Prime Minister's Office.
Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said, "First I hope to discuss the overall picture of social security reform. From there, I want this meeting to move forward with work to gather your opinions on an estimation of costs following the reform and the Government's basic stance on the comprehensive reform of the social security and tax systems.
Last time, I asked this Council to discuss the 'three pillars of reassurance.' In addition, I would also like you to emphasize the two themes of 'fair and equal mutual support,' and 'perspectives on new growth.'
Concretely, for mutual support, I have three pillars I would like you to consider. These are fair mutual support within and among generations, focused mutual support, and mutual support suitable for the super-elderly. I would like you to discuss these three pillars of support.
For growth, I would also like to ask that you consider three pillars. These are the importance of technological innovation, the diversification of social service providers, and the creation of new service fields."
