Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the seventh meeting of the Council for Intensive Discussion on Social Security Reform at the Prime Minister's Office.

Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said, "Intensive discussion has started last week based on the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) draft, which also encompasses the drafting of a reform plan for medical and long-term care sectors. I believe we had a very fruitful exchange of ideas today.
Mr. Tsutomu Hotta presented a comprehensive diagram earlier. If a model town is created in such a way in the process of reconstruction, this will spread to other regions. In that sense, the reconstruction will indeed be an opportunity to present a new model, and I want to see this idea included in the design of reconstruction.
Although it is an enormous challenge, I ask for your continued efforts toward compiling a solid final draft."
