Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the 17th Ministerial Meeting Concerning Measures Against Crime at the Diet building.

Discussion took place on the progress of measures to secure safety and security in the disaster-stricken areas decided on April 6, and other topics.

Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister gave instructions, saying, "Many people, especially those with homes in the area within 20 kilometers of the nuclear power station who have been forced to flee their homes with only the clothes on their back since March 12, are concerned about the possibility of burglary and other crimes in the area. However, I believe that the establishment of the no-entry zone on April 22, which prohibited the entry into the zone, has enabled us to address these concerns more thoroughly.
A similar concern will arise in the future for the planned evacuation zones. Since the maintenance of public order is the basic requirement, I ask that thorough responses will be taken."
