Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the sixth meeting of the Council for Intensive Discussion on Social Security Reform at the Prime Minister's Office.

Discussion took place on Direction of the Reform of the Social Security System and Specific Measures, presented by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW), and other matters.

Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said, "We are now entering the stage to consolidate our discussion. I ask for your further efforts in line with the schedule to present a draft proposal for the reform of the social security system by the end of May and to compile a final draft of the proposal for the comprehensive reform of social security and taxation systems by the end of June."
