Prime Minister Naoto Kan received a request at the Prime Minister's Office from Mr. Ikuhiro Hattori, Chairman of the National Federation of Fisheries Co-operative Associations, and others, concerning the incident at the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.

Upon receiving the request, the Prime Minister said, "I apologize from the bottom of my heart for the great damage caused by the nuclear power stations in Fukushima, on top of the direct damage inflicted on the fishing industry due to the recent earthquake.
I will exert my utmost efforts to promptly bring the nuclear incident to close and to prevent any irradiated water from flowing into the sea."
