The Prime Minister Attends the Plenary Session of the House of Councillors
Prime Minister Naoto Kan attended the plenary session of the House of Councillors.
During the session, a Resolution to Thank the International Assistance in Response to the Great East Japan Earthquake was submitted and unanimously approved by the House.
The Prime Minister delivered an address, saying, "The Great East Japan Earthquake devastated a wide area of the country. I offer my heartfelt sympathy for those afflicted by the disaster, including foreigners, and their families.
We are working to stabilize the situation of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station at the earliest date possible. We will continue providing the international community with information and explanations in the most transparent manner.
As Japan is facing this unprecedented disaster, we have been receiving generous assistance from many countries, regions, and international organizations, as well as private citizens around the world. This is proof of the warm solidarity extended by the international community toward the people of Japan, and has encouraged the people stricken by the disaster from the bottom of the heart. I have renewed my resolve to revive and restore Japan with the latent potential of the people of Japan and with the cooperation of the international community.
The Government, in full acknowledgement of the purpose of the resolution, expresses its deepest gratitude to the international community. While continuing to play an active role in contributing to the international community, Japan will mobilize its full powers to overcome the severe hardship."
