Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the second Ministerial Meeting on the Response to the New Zealand Earthquake at the Diet building.

The Prime Minister said, "I extend my heartfelt sympathy for the people of New Zealand who have been affected by the disaster. In response to the New Zealand earthquake, upon the official request from the country to dispatch the Japan Disaster Relief Team, about 70 experts departed Narita Airport and headed for the disaster site in Christchurch. I hope the team can rescue as many people as possible."
