Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the fourth meeting of the Council on the Promotion of "New Public Commons" at the Prime Minister's Office.

Discussion took place on the government's efforts and on items to be considered going forward.

Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said, "As we have just discussed, there are too few certified non-profit organizations. We must unfailingly expand the scope of their eligibility and, at the same time, discuss tax deductions in the context of the taxation system for donations. These endeavors are also included in the Council's proposed items, and the Cabinet will work on them as a top priority issue. I am aware that these efforts will involve legislative and taxation system matters. Yet, I sincerely hope that they will be realized in a truly non-partisan manner.
Since the Hatoyama Cabinet era, the members of this Council have been making strenuous efforts to advancing a 'New Public Commons.' On our part, too, the Cabinet will do its best so that the Council's proposals will be put into action."
