Prime Minister Naoto Kan held a meeting of the Ministerial Committee on the Formulation of the Budget at the Prime Minister's Office.

Discussion took place on the draft outline of the Basic Principles of the Budget Formulation for FY2011.

The Prime Minister said in his opening address, "It is time once again to finalize the budget. The budget for FY2011 must be formulated in a little over two weeks. I ask all of you to approach this finalizing process with a view to creating a major momentum to rebuild Japan as a vibrant country that can grow together with the nations around the world and jointly advance science and technology, while focusing on growth and employment as one pillar to revitalize Japan."
