Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the 14th meeting of the Government Revitalization Unit at the Prime Minister's Office.

Discussion took place on the evaluation results of the third round (last part) of the review of government programs and other matters.

The Prime Minister said in his opening address, "Having finished the third round of the review of government programs, we have now finally come to a phase of giving a concrete shape to the evaluation results. The government programs are reviewed from the perspective of ensuring no waste of tax money in the process of policy implementation, rather than of judging policies themselves. If a policy creates a lot of waste despite having a good target, we have to see to it that the target is well achieved while eliminating the waste. I hope that various measures are leveraged to ensure this in formulating the budget."
